What is Robotic Soldering?

Robotic soldering is a fully automated soldering technique which uses a robotic arm to solder components on to a printed circuit board. This technique is very accurate and takes care of each joint which has different temperature and pad dimensions.

A soldering iron is mounted on the end cell of a robotic arm which moves to the programmed positions at a fast rate to solder components on to a board. The soldering material is then poured through the wire feeders on the joints followed by the heat transfer to ensure a mechanical contact between iron tip and component terminals.

Advantages:

  • One time investment: It offers a cost-effective solution for soldering different PCBs. So, a manufacturer can easily install the system for their whole soldering process in one go.
  • Less Rework: As it’s fully automated, chances of error are quite low. It can perform the same task repeatedly with the same precision in a given period of time.
  • Efficiency: Robotic work stations require minimal supervision once programmed. It can work efficiently by eliminating the requirement of the manpower.
  • Changes can be made instantaneously as it’s driven by a robot.

PCB Directory has created the largest databased of PCB Assembly companies that use robotic soldering during the assembly process. Users can narrow down on the list of companies based on their location and certifications.
