In mid-December 2024, the GPV team in Thailand completed the re-layout activities of a refurbished, former mechanics factory in Thailand. The electronics factory is now 22,000 sq. m. The refurbished factory building was handed over to Bjorn Fiskers and his team in May 2024 after moving mechanic production into a new factory building near the electronics factory.
“I am very proud of my team here in Thailand. They have worked hard to ensure a smooth translation of equipment, products, and people. The next step for us is to work with 5S activities to ensure optimal efficiency within the newly structured production and support areas,” says Bjorn Fiskers, MD at GPV Electronics TH and GPV Mechanics TH, both situated in the Bangkok area.
A Team Effort
The re-layout activities have included relocating equipment and machinery, including the SMT and THT areas, the coating area, testing, box-build assembly, and Kardex. The electronics factory also features a new SMT overpressure room equipped with a new stand-alone control system.
“The refurbishment is a significant milestone in further strengthening our operational footprint in Southeast Asia. It has been a huge layout exercise, where almost no area has been untouched, and I am impressed about the execution without significant impacts on our current deliveries. A big congratulations to our team in Thailand for their dedicated work, making us able to ensure service excellence for our customers,” says Martin Kjærbo, COO at GPV.
In July 2024, solar panels were installed on top of the factory building, supporting the target of a 70% reduction in greenhouse gas intensity in our scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2028 (from a 2020 baseline).
Building Global Presence
The completion of the re-layout in Thailand is part of their recent expansions of factories to match global footprint to where customers need. Last year, they opened a new state-of-the-art electronics factory in Sri Lanka, and in 2024, they worked on getting a new electronics factory in Piestany, Slovakia, ready for production. Simultaneously, they are expanding the electronics factory in Mexico.
A key benefit of global footprint is their ability to share best practices across locations. This way, they can ensure harmonized and optimized standards throughout operations to the benefit of customers. Currently, they have 17 factories and 7,500 employees spread across 12 countries.
