Kaynes Circuits India to Establish Rs.4,995-Crore Electronic Component Facility in Tamil Nadu712370

Kaynes Circuits India, a subsidiary of Kaynes Technology, is set to invest Rs. 4,995 crore in establishing a state-of-the-art electronic component manufacturing facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The new plant will produce advanced components such as 74-layer printed circuit boards (PCBs), high-density interconnect (HDI) PCBs, flexible PCBs, high-performance laminates, camera module assemblies, and wire harness assemblies.

This will be Tamil Nadu’s first major investment in PCB manufacturing, marking a significant milestone for the state’s electronics industry. While Sriperumbudur and Hosur already serve as prominent electronics hubs, the government aims to position Thoothukudi as a new manufacturing cluster in the southern region. The facility is expected to create approximately 4,700 jobs across Thoothukudi and its neighbouring districts, reflecting India’s strategic move from basic assembly toward high-end component production.

Strategically located near VinFast’s proposed electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant, the Kaynes facility will enhance Thoothukudi’s prospects of becoming an integrated hub for both electronics and EV manufacturing. “The alignment of EV and electronics clusters will allow Thoothukudi to emerge as a complete, end-to-end hub for high-tech manufacturing,” said Prabhu Ram, Vice President, Industry Intelligence Group, CyberMedia Research, in a statement to The Economic Times. “It mirrors Tamil Nadu’s strategy in Sriperumbudur and Hosur, where cross-sector industrial synergies have delivered long-term value.

The project also aligns with India’s growing emphasis on domestic component manufacturing. According to ET, the government’s Rs. 22,919-crore electronics component manufacturing programme has drawn strong interest for producing multilayer PCBs, lithium-ion cells, and various passive and sub-assembly components. “This is the first time the PCB industry is seeing real momentum,” noted KS Babu, Secretary of the Indian Printed Circuit Association (IPCA). “The scheme supports multilayer and HDI boards, which are essential for next-generation electronics. Challenges remain globally, but the government has promised full support.
