Stannol, a company specialising in the production of solder wires, solder pastes, fluxes, bar solders, measuring and testing devices, cleaners, and protective lacquers, has introduced the Smart 4D Thermal Profiler. This new device enables precise analysis of temperature profiles in reflow soldering processes and supports companies in optimizing their production quality.
The Smart 4D Thermal Profiler is developed to eliminate uncertainties during soldering. In modern soldering processes, precise temperature control is crucial to achieve reliable solder joints and avoid failures. The profiler measures and analyses temperature curves directly on the assembly, enabling early detection of potential problems and optimal adjustment of processes.
Four-dimensional data acquisition
What makes the Smart 4D Thermal Profiler unique is its four-dimensional data acquisition. It not only records temperature at the sensors, but also system temperature using pyrometers, vibration measurement in XYZ using acceleration sensors, and the time curve. This real 4D profiling goes beyond the classic recording of a temperature profile, allowing additional process parameters to be monitored and analyzed.
The four dimensions include temperature measurement at critical points on the assembly, vibration detection through advanced accelerometers in all three axes, equipment temperature monitoring via pyrometers, and the evolution of these parameters over time. This combination provides a comprehensive view of soldering conditions and system behavior, ensuring greater process stability and product reliability.
Key benefits of the Stannol Smart 4D Thermal Profiler include fast and precise temperature measurement directly on the assembly for maximum process control, prevention of soldering errors through exact analysis and software-supported optimization, and improved system control with integrated vibration monitoring. It also offers easy operation with intuitive software, real-time data evaluation, and component-specific optimization by fine-tuning soldering profiles according to individual requirements. Additionally, it is universally applicable, making it suitable for different oven types and various soldering applications.
The profiler is complemented by highly functional software that enhances monitoring and analysis. Users can select from many common soldering systems within the software for flexible customisation. Live data can be viewed during the measurement process via Wi-Fi functions, and solder paste management features allow different pastes to be defined and selected. Furthermore, process windows can be set to control temperature profiles. Within these windows, Critical Process Indicators (CPIs) are defined with both target ranges and exact target values—for example, time above melting temperature set between 30–60 seconds with a target of 45 seconds.
The Stannol Smart 4D Thermal Profiler offers six measuring channels for type K temperature sensors, two pyrometers for system monitoring, and XYZ acceleration sensors for vibration measurement. It comes with software for analysis and optimisation, a rechargeable internal power supply via USB-C, and LED indicators for both battery and device status. The system has an operating temperature range from 0 °C to 75 °C, measurement accuracy of ±0.5 °C, resolution of 0.1 °C, and a measurement rate between 0.1 and 50 readings per second. Its temperature range spans from -250 °C to 1200 °C, with connectivity provided through 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
The device measures 120 x 65.5 x 14.5 mm, with protective steel and insulated boxes available for added durability (281 x 78 x 24 mm and 281 x 80.5 x 27.5 mm respectively). It is powered by two AAA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries, ensuring portability and reliability in demanding production environments.
With its innovative four-dimensional profiling, intuitive software, and robust technical specifications, the Stannol Smart 4D Thermal Profiler provides manufacturers with a powerful tool for improving quality, avoiding soldering defects, and optimising modern reflow soldering processes.
