Metal Etch Services Installs New Watt NEVIS Stencil Laser System at its Detroit Facility

Metal Etch Services, Inc. has installed a Watt NEVIS stencil laser platform at its Metal Etch Services Motor City facility in Detroit, Michigan - the first system of its kind operating in the United States. The investment comes as stencil requirements continue to tighten, especially for customers working with fine-pitch components and high-density PCB designs. The NEVIS platform is designed to cut ultra-thin materials with a higher level of consistency across complex aperture designs.

More consistent apertures help provide more consistent paste release, reducing variation, improving yields, and reducing defects during production.

The system also incorporates continuous Z-height monitoring and optimized laser parameters to maintain tolerances while operating at higher throughput. According to Metal Etch Services, this allows jobs to move through production more quickly while maintaining stencil quality.

Setup and repeatability are also supported through automated fixturing and integrated software tools, reducing setup time and helping ensure consistency across production runs, including multiple revisions and high-mix manufacturing.

The installation is part of the company's expansion into the Midwest, providing customers in the region with local access to stencil manufacturing services.
