Modular PCB is a design methodology where a complex electronic circuit is divided into independent, functional blocks or "modules" which are smaller PCBs or sections of a large PCB. Each module is developed, tested, and optimized separately before being integrated into the complete system. This approach helps engineers manage design complexity and streamline development, thus simplifying troubleshooting and maintenance.

In traditional PCB designs, all components are placed on a single board, which can lead to design bottlenecks, higher error rates, and difficult revisions. In contrast, modular PCBs segment circuits into logical sectionseach responsible for a specific function, thus enabling parallel development and improved version control.

Modular PCBs may consist of one board with multiple interconnected sections, or several smaller boards connected via cables, connectors, or backplanes.   • Prototype and Test: Each module is manufactured and tested independently to validate performance. Any issues can be addressed in isolation, reducing the risk of system-wide failures.
  • Integrate and Validate: Once all modules are verified, they are integrated into the full system and validation tests are conducted under real-world conditions to confirm proper functionality.
